Adoptable Dogs

At the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley our philosophy is all about finding the right match for the homeless animals that find their way to our shelter.

Our goal is to make a match that lasts a lifetime.  Our team at HSSPV is here to help you find that special friend.  Check out our Petfinder Petscroller below to see the dogs that are available for adoption.

Over the past two weeks, we have experienced severe upper respiratory conditions with several dogs. Some of the dogs developed pneumonia. This gave us cause for concern and we promptly put the kennel area on hold for adoptions so that we could assess the situation. At this time, we have received confirmation that 3 of the dogs tested positively for Distemper and other upper respiratory viruses. Currently, 4 dogs are being treated in homes; we are happy to report that as of today they are doing OK. We have called all adopters that may have been impacted by the illness and asked them to closely watch their pet and take the pet to Redstone Animal Hospital if they notice any symptoms. If you have adopted a pet from us within the last month and have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call our Medical Operations Manager, Stephanie at 303-703-2938.

Our plan going forward will be to watch everyone and treat any animals that become symptomatic. There are many dogs in the shelter that have sufficient vaccine history and we will be testing them over the next few weeks with the hopes of being able to place them up for adoption.

We are covering all medical treatment expenses for shelter animals and animals that have been adopted. Our goal is to adopt them into forever homes as soon as we can. Please visit www.hsspv.org for updates on when we’ll have dogs available, or if you would like to help us with medical costs in treating and testing our wonderful dogs.

Please let this serve as an urgent reminder to all pet owners; the Distemper vaccine provides excellent coverage against this disease. We highly recommend everyone regularly vaccinates their pets. We thank our community for your continued support!
