Our adoption fee includes the spay or neuter surgery, microchip, vaccinations for the Bordatella Virus (Kennel Cough), Parvo/Corona Virus (Distemper), and a 14-day limited health guarantee from Redstone Animal Hospital. When you visit Redstone Animal Hospital to activate the 14-day limited health guarantee, you will receive a free wellness exam and rabies vaccination.
We ask that all potential adopters complete an adoption application that helps us determine how the pet will fit into your current lifestyle. All adopters must be at least 18 years of age. We need to have landlord approval prior to adopting to renters. We do not place holds on any pet that is available for adoption. If there are multiple approved adoption applications, the selection of the most suitable home and best match will be made by a drawing.
All members of the family should meet with the new pet. If there are other dogs in the household, we request that the potential adopters go through a “meet and greet” process with their current dog. This helps us and the family determine whether the dogs will get along with each other. In the case of a senior dog who may be overstressed by visiting the shelter, we will waive the “meet and greet” requirement. We do not have a “meet and greet” requirement for cats. If you are planning to adopt a dog and have cats at home, please ask our staff how the dog is with cats.
All 7 days a week! We need the most help during the time window of 8:30am-11:00am (9:00–12:00 on Sundays), as this is when we are cleaning the kennels and always need help with this. While we are appreciative of help any time of the day, please note that there may not be a need in the afternoons, and if you are new to volunteering, we would ask that you please avoid coming in after 4:00 to begin with (unless you are walking dogs or cuddling cats). You may come in whatever day you want for as long as you want. No appointment necessary.
Yes, groups can come in to volunteer, coordinate this through communityoutreach@hsspv.org. Please note that we get many inquiries for large groups and may not always have the need or opportunity available; therefore, please give us as much notice as possible. We always appreciate your support. We can always use blankets and in-kind support. Organizing a donation drive or fundraiser in our name is always a great way to support us. Find our donation wish list at here.
Be sure to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty (sweatpants, T-shirt, sweater) and closed toed shoes (sneakers, hiking boots, etc).
